Abuja was built in the 1980s as Nigeria's capital and is calmer and greener than Lagos. Aso Rock, a huge granite outcrop, rises behind the government district, and the Nigerian National Mosque and the National Christian Centre face each other across the city.

Millennium Park is the city's largest green space, and Jabi Lake has a waterfront with restaurants. Zuma Rock, a giant monolith pictured on the 100 naira note, is a short drive away.

The dry season from November to February is the best time to visit.
