Bangladesh from the UK: nonstop flights to Sylhet, one change to Dhaka and Chattogram, and a country of rivers, tea gardens, mangrove forest and a very long beach.
Bangladesh has three international airports: Hazrat Shahjalal International in Dhaka (DAC), Osmani International in Sylhet (ZYL) and Shah Amanat International in Chattogram (CGP).
The country sits on the delta of the Ganges, the Brahmaputra and the Meghna. In the south west, boats take you into the Sundarbans, home to the Bengal tiger, spotted deer and river dolphins. Bangladesh's UNESCO World Heritage Sites are the Sundarbans, the Historic Mosque City of Bagerhat and the ruins of the Buddhist Vihara at Paharpur.
The weekend in Bangladesh is Friday and Saturday. Dress modestly, and expect shorter opening hours during Ramadan. Our London team can help with flights, hotels and holidays: call +44 208 900 1624.
What you need to enter Bangladesh depends on the passport you travel on and the reason for your trip, and the rules change from time to time. Check the official requirements linked below when you book, and again a few days before you fly.
Book a travel health appointment in good time and read TravelHealthPro's page on Bangladesh. Drink bottled or treated water, keep cool in the heat and sun, and use repellent and long sleeves against mosquitoes. With a heart or lung condition, keep an eye on air quality while you are there.
Bangladesh uses the taka (BDT). Keep some cash for rickshaws, markets and small shops, tell your bank you are travelling and check its charges for using your card abroad.
