Larnaca, on the south east coast of Cyprus, is home to the island's main airport and has a relaxed palm lined seafront, Finikoudes, backed by cafés and restaurants. The Church of St Lazarus was built over the saint's tomb in the ninth century.

In winter, flamingos gather on the Larnaca Salt Lake, beside the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque, an important site of Muslim pilgrimage. Divers come for the Zenobia, a ferry wreck lying just offshore.

About 40 minutes east, Ayia Napa and Protaras have soft sandy beaches, such as Nissi Beach and Fig Tree Bay, and the sea caves of Cape Greco.
